COACH DeeDee Buzzi-Bertoldo

(Hurdles, Jump & Relays )

Coach DeeDee Buzzi-Bertoldo, a proud Kansas native with a passion for track and field, brings a wealth of experience and tenacity to her role as the Head Coach of Hot Feet TC Utah. Following in her father's footsteps, Lloyd Buzzi, a Kansas football legend and KS State Record Holder in the 120m Hurdles, DeeDee's journey in track and field began in middle school.

Throughout her career, DeeDee achieved remarkable success, winning multiple AAU and USATF(TAC) national championships and setting national records in the 50m hurdles and 80m hurdles. Her high school years at Washburn Rural High School in Topeka, KS, saw her lead the KS State honor roll for three years in the 100m hurdles, setting multiple school records, including an impressive 14.21 in the 100m hurdles during her junior year.

Continuing her record-setting journey at the University of Arizona, DeeDee excelled in various events, becoming a team captain in her junior and senior years. Her college career was marked by resilience when, during her sophomore year, she overcame a serious illness to qualify for her first NCAA Division 1 National Track & Field Championship, defying doctors' expectations.

DeeDee's versatility shone as she earned All-Pac 10 honors each year in events like 100m hurdles, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, and Pole Vault. Notably, she became the 55m hurdle champion at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor T & F Championships in 1996 and set a school record with the 7th fastest time in Pac-10 history in 1997.

Her transition to pole vaulting was a testament to her passion and determination. After learning from mentors like Dominic Johnson and training with the Sky Athletics Pole Vault Club, DeeDee quickly became a formidable pole vaulter, securing a 5th place finish at the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships in 1998.

Despite facing health challenges, DeeDee's coaching journey began, spanning high schools in Las Vegas and coaching elite athletes. Diagnosed with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos later in life, she embraced coaching again, achieving significant success with her son's high school track team.

Beyond her athletic achievements, DeeDee holds a BS in Health Sciences from the University of Arizona, with a focus on Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics. She is a certified personal trainer and holds certifications in First Responder, First Aid/CPR, and therapeutic riding instruction. Beyond the track, she enjoys being a mom to her standout athlete son, Jack, and spends time with her adopted Mustang, Jitterbug, whom she has trained as a therapy horse.

DeeDee's extensive network of coaches and athletes, combined with her expertise in biomechanics and sports nutrition, positions her as a valuable asset to the Hot Feet track club. As a dedicated mom to her son Jack and a passionate advocate for equine-assisted learning, Coach DeeDee Buzzi-Bertoldo is poised to make a lasting impact on Utah's track and field community.
